Barry has asked us to introduce ourselves, so I will begin by saying that I am extremely honored to be a guest blogger here. I am an artist, entrepreneur and a HUGE web-advocate with an interest in technology of all kinds: old, new and the intersection between the two. I believe the Internet is not only an efficient tool (for almost everything), but it is changing how we think.  I will be posting about both of these things.

Here is some quick personal background.  I received a BFA from SMU and a MFA (in painting) from the University of Washington.  After a variety of odd jobs and adjunct teaching positions, I started teach full-time at SMU's school for Game Design (The Guildhall). The most interesting part of this experience was being able to experiment with assignments that moved between 2D/3D media and the computer. (Examples here).

After many years of teaching traditional art "stuff" and learning about the latest visualization technologies, I started to get an itch.  I became jealous of my students going off and getting jobs as innovators in technology. I wanted to use the web to be innovative with technology as well, particularly in regard to visual thinking.

In early 2006, I co-founded a Company (SlideRoom) to help artists and arts administrators connect online.  Specifically, SlideRoom provides an online application system for arts organizations to receive and review visual media from applicants. Our primary clients are schools, residencies and grant-foundations and we are seeing a growing interest from Public Art.

I'm looking forward to sharing my thoughts about art, education and technology, and hope that it grows into a fruitful conversation.
