In only one month, Google+ has become the fastest growing social network site in history. With twenty-five million users, Google+ is comprised of a diverse demographic user base, ranging from celebrities, political figures, and the average social media junkie.

As an active user, I see a great deal of potential for the personal branding, network mapping and collaboration that Google+ offers to its users. Google+ has presented itself as a one-stop hub, combining functions used in Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.

Recognizing Google+ as a unique way of connecting and sharing information, and appropriately utilizing its numerous functions will help you advance your overall marketing and social media strategy.

How is Google+ different, you ask? It is a one-stop shop.

From the beginning, Google’s developers ingeniously built the entire Google brand. They started with a search engine that quickly became so mainstream, a verb was created: “Hold on, I’ll Google it.”

Then they ventured into email by invite-only, creating exclusivity and elite access. After engaging the public with these two services, Google then branched out, developing Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Voice, and a slew of products that helped users simplify their lives.

All of these innovations paved the way for Google+, which allows you to combine all aspects of your life on the web: email, search capability, productivity, shopping, and finally, social networking. However, Google+ sets itself apart from established popular platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, not because it offers a myriad of other functions, but it provides an accessible way to segregate and target your network in a unique fashion.

“Circles,” a creation of Google+, allow you to categorize your contacts, share interests, internet finds, and daily activities.

A “huddle” creates a chatroom or text conversations that include members from entire “circles.”

“Hangouts,” a self-explanatory function, allow you to bring multiple people into a video chat, which is supposed to make internet “hanging out” feel more natural and user controlled.

You can search for and add interests to your profile, and people who share the same, sometimes obscure or bizarre interests can then “spark” a conversation.

Finally, “instant upload” takes your pictures from you Picasa account and automatically uploads them to your Google account for all your approved friends to see.

As a nonprofit organization or individual artist, these functions allow you to communicate differently, customize your constituent database, and provide information and updates in a new and exciting manner.

Google+ provides a new environment in which you can engage with your customers and patrons in a way that connects the missing link in the social networking chain.

While Google+ is not a replacement for human interaction, it is instead a tool to gather thoughts and ideas and ultimately guide you in building online connections and relationships.

Google has already made great strides in providing online functionality for their customers and businesses alike. However, I am curious to see what other solutions and tools Google will develop and integrate into this established communication platform in the future.

It is clear that Google is making a major push into the social networking arena. Similar to other social sites in their early months, Google+ is growing at a rapid pace, I am also curious to see what additional tools Google will develop or tweak to integrate, leverage, and sustain this growth to keep the momentum going.

Are you currently using Google+? As an individual and/or organization? What are your +1s or -1s (likes and dislikes)?

Great article and overview of what Google offers and what it means to me. I am still discovering the layers within my gmail account and my Google account. It certainly has enabled me to become more efficient at what I.

Although I still don't fully grasp the concept behind the 1+, I do understand that it will serve me well to use it even if my understanding of it is only partial.

Hello Friend,

I am Dr.Wodi Daniel. The Auditor in charge of Foreign Remittance Department of a Bank in the Commercial city of Cotonou, Benin Republic.

This is a very confidential proposition for you. On July 21st 2003,an Importer of Textiles and Automobiles for the past Thirteen years made a numbered time (Fixed) Deposit for twelve calendar months, valued at ten million seven hundred thousand United States Dollars (US$10.7musd) in my branch.

Upon maturity on July 20th 2004 as his Credit Officer, I sent a routine notification to his forwarding address but got no reply.

After a month, we sent a reminder and finally I discovered from his employees, that Client was one of the passengers who died with his entire family in the ill-fated plane crash involving a UTA Boeing 727 Chartered Flight that took off from Cotonou Benin Republic and crashed into Atlantic Ocean on Thursday 25th December 2003.

For further details of the Plane Crash, Please Visit http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/3348109.stm Further investigations, and all attempts to trace his next of kin was fruitless.

Again, I made further investigation and discovered that the Client did not declare any next of kin or relations in all his official documents, including his Bank Deposit paper work in my Bank.

This sum of ten million seven hundred thousand United States Dollars (US$10.7 million USD) is still sitting in my Bank no one will ever come forward to claim it.

According to the International Banking ethics, codes and Laws, at the expiration of ten (10) years, the money will revert to the ownership of the Benin Government if nobody applies to claim the fund.

Consequently, my proposal is that I will like you as a foreigner to stand in as the next of kin to the deceased.

This is simple, I will like you to respond immediately with your full names and contact information so as I will send to you a specimen copy of an application form which you will refill and send to the bank putting claim over the said balance with the bank as the bonafide next of kin to the deceased.

The money will be paid into your account for us to share in the ratio of 50% for me and 40% for you, while 5% will be set aside for any expenses that may arise in the process of transferring this fund into your chosen/nominated bank account you wish to receive it, and 5% to the motherless and the needy in your country.

Upon your response, I shall then provide you with more details and relevant information.

Please send to me your confidential telephone and fax numbers for easy communication, oral discussion and more directives on what next to do.

You should observe utmost confidentiality and be rest assured that this transaction would be most profitable for both of us because I shall require your assistance to invest my share in your country which you will be the arrow head of the investment.

I must not fail to tell you that this transaction is totally risk free and legitimate as far as you can follow up with my instructions and directives as an insider here in the bank, so, don't have any fear in you about the transaction.

PLEASE REPLY ONLY TO MY PRIVATE EMAIL ADDRESS : danielwodi@gmail.com

I Await your urgent reply.

Thanks and God bless.

Dr.Wodi Daniel.
