Why I support Americans for the Arts

Ms. Sarah Arison

The arts are important to me, and if you’re reading this, I bet they’re important to you too. I know you’ll agree that the arts help communities heal, learn, and grow. All year long, I work to advance and lead the organizations that are important to me, like YoungArts, American Ballet Theatre, Museum of Modern Art, MoMA PS1, New World Symphony and so many others. And that’s why I support Americans for the Arts: because they help make it possible for arts organizations and artists in communities all over the country to do what they do better.

This year, the incredible nationwide network of Americans for the Arts has done everything from connecting arts professionals in Nashville, Houston, and Miami to share best practices to recover from hurricanes and floods, to helping arts education advocates in New Jersey achieve policy success using strategies developed in California. All year long, Americans for the Arts provides interactive training and peer-to-peer learning through an online platform called ArtsU, so that learning and resources for arts professionals are never dependent on working in a major city.

Americans for the Arts leads the way in sharing the message that the arts have the power to transform to a multidisciplinary audience of leaders in business, government, the military, and beyond. Events like the National Arts Awards and the BCA10 highlight excellence in the field, shining a light on inspirational new voices like Andra Day, innovative partnerships like Uniqlo with the Museum of Modern Art, and exceptional leaders like Thelma Golden.

Knowing that it isn’t enough to simply share the message, they back it all up with case-making research. The Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 study is the largest research effort of its kind. In addition to releasing tools, videos, and how-to guides, experts from Americans for the Arts are on an 18-month tour to lead in-person training sessions in communities around the country.

I’m proud to support Americans for the Arts. This support reaches in to my community, and so far beyond it. I hope you’ll join me and give now.
