Jamie Foxx Invites You to Experience 'Thunder Soul'

Jamie Foxx here, writing you to share the good news about Thunder Soul – a very special film that is close to my heart. This film is a rare gem – more than just a “must-see” it’s a “must-experience” for all ages.

I am so inspired by this movie – the true story of how one person makes a profound difference in the lives of others – that I am asking for your help to make it as successful as it is special. Most people know me as an actor, singer and comedian, but few know that none of that would’ve been possible had it not been for my Granny, Estelle Talley, who gave me the gift of music at a very young age.

It was important to Granny that I received an excellent education--which thankfully always included music. Studying instrumental music gave me discipline, skill, and creative expression. But far beyond that, having mentors, like Granny and great music teachers, believe in me from a young age laid the foundation for my success as an entertainer and, more importantly, as a person. That is the indomitable spirit at the heart of this powerful movie—and why I know you will love it.

Thunder Soul tells the story of legendary music educator, Conrad “Prof” Johnson, who in the early 1970s at an inner-city Houston high school, transformed a struggling band program into a world class funk powerhouse. Prof’s love, dedication, and demand of excellence inspired his students, uplifted an entire community, and made history.

35 years later, his students return to their old band room, dust off their instruments, and prepare to honor the man who changed their lives—the now 92-year-old Prof. The result is a funny, heartwarming, and deeply inspiring story-with one of the funkiest soundtracks since the 1970s!

Every young person deserves a “Prof “ to help inspire the character-building and life-sustaining skills that can shine through music and arts education. To that goal, we have partnered with a number of leading national organizations to use Thunder Soul as an entertaining vehicle to spread the message.

But it’s really your voice that counts. Here’s what you can do:

1.  GET MOTIVATEDSee the movie. Spread the good word to friends, educators, administrators, students, parents, and music and arts lovers in your community. Organize a group experience for your school or organization to see Thunder Soul together.

2. TAKE ACTION – Learn about the many great tools and resources available from our coalition of music, art, and education partners including Americans for the Arts, VH1 Save the Music, NAMM, National PTA, Arts Education Partnership, National Association for Music Education, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, National Fatherhood Initiative, and the National Education Association.

Sincerely,

Jamie Foxx

I plan to see Thunder Soul. I love and appreciate the arts! Without them, the world would be a boring place filled with ignorance, hatred, war and stupidity.
