Americans for the Arts

MEMBERSHIPS
Did you ever wonder why you received something in the mail marked as Arts Action Fund when you are already a member of Americans for the Arts? Or receive a renewal notice from Americans for the Arts when you thought you had already renewed? The membership team is here to explain the difference between the two memberships.

Citizen Membership
In the fall of 2004, the Americans for the Arts launched a new membership for citizens or people who are interested in the arts at called Americans for the Arts Action Fund. This membership was created to engage citizens in education and advocacy in support of the arts and arts education. The goal is to enlist citizens who are interested in the arts and arts education to ensure that arts friendly public policies are adopted at the Federal, state and local levels, and public and private resources maximized. As a citizen member, the Arts Action Fund is able to engage in candidate forums and endorsements, issue candidate report cards in an election year, and conduct larger advocacy campaigns.

As an Arts Action Fund member we will work on your behalf to:

  • Educate elected officials, candidates, the media, and citizens about why the arts not only enrich us—they also create better students, better schools, and better communities.
  • Provide advocacy training at the federal, state, and local levels—involving our extensive arts advocacy infrastructure and network to help educate and train individual arts advocates and local organizations.
  • Evaluate Members of Congress—assessing and rating their voting records on high-priority arts issues and holding them accountable to their constituencies of arts supporters.
  • Provide a voice for the public—aggressively petitioning to shape public policy for the arts and arts education.
The Arts Action Fund membership dues are only $20 per year. If you are interested in the Americans Arts Action Fund membership, please go to www.artsactionfund.org.

Professional Membership
Americans for the Arts is the nation’s leading not-for-profit organization for advancing the arts in America for almost 50 years. Professional members are local, state and national arts organizations; government agencies; business leaders; individual philanthropists; educators; and fund-raisers who are dedicated to promoting the arts and arts education in our communities across America. Our programs and services are designed to serve all sectors – public, private, for-profit, not-for-profit, urban, rural, and suburban. With the Americans for the Arts professional membership program, arts leaders have access to a wide range of information and support to assist both individuals and organizations working in the arts.

As an Americans for the Arts Professional member we will work with you to:

• Foster an environment in which the arts can thrive and contribute to the creation of more livable communities.
• Generate more public- and private-sector resources for the arts and arts education.
• Build individual appreciation for the value of the arts.
