Alyx Kellington

Alyx Kellington most recently served as a Community Outreach Specialist at the Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts, where she drew on experience from an accomplished career in both the arts and education. Previously, Kellington worked with the Palm Beach County Cultural Council as the director of arts and cultural education. Working with more than 70 nonprofit arts and cultural curriculum-based organizations, she served as the liaison between the organizations and the School District of Palm Beach County, charter and private schools, home school parents, afterschool programs, and probationary youth centers. During her time there, Alyx expanded professional development opportunities for arts educators, teachers, and teaching artists through monthly meetings and ongoing workshops. She also initiated research to create a regional teaching artists’ certification with partner organizations in five counties. In 2009, Kellington conceived, initiated, and managed a grant program, Building Learning Communities through Arts and Culture, that fostered arts integration in 6th grade social studies classrooms. Before moving to Palm Beach County, Alyx lived Austin, TX, where she served as an educator to probationary youth, as a fine arts director at the Boys and Girls Clubs, and photo editor with Steck-Vaughn Harcourt publishing; education division. Prior to her work in Texas, Alyx worked 12 years as a professional photojournalist and visited more than 30 countries to explore and document different cultures. Her photos have been widely published in newspapers, magazines, and books. She had a diploma in photojournalism from the New England School of Photography in Boston and studied Latin American studies at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Alyx passed away in July 2012.
